In My Shoes

One day a friend of mine was trying to help me see that I was wrong about something. As a typical human, I instantly became defensive. How dare they attempt to correct me when they hadn't lived my life? What did they know? The story of how this poem came about and the results of our talk are posted on my sister blog: www.mytribute2him.blogspot.com . The post is titled "So I'll try again...If You Will Hold My Hand" if you want to check it out. Enjoy!

In My Shoes
12/27/11

Walk a mile in my shoes
Take a journey through my past
Observe. Respect. Never assume. Always ask
Walk a mile in my shoes
Carry my burdens for awhile
Suffer every fear, every hurt, each scar, each trial
Walk a mile in my shoes
See the world through my eyes
Feel my love, see my tears, hear my silent cries
Walk a mile in my shoes
Before you tell me how to live
Understand me before advice to me you give
You say "o that's easy"
Have answers for all my problems
Even get frustrated when I don't attempt to solve them
One thing and only one I'll ask
Before patience with me you lose
When was the last time

You walked a mile in my shoes?

A talent taught to the youngest of babes from the beginning of life. A powerful tool that, when used correctly enhances our existence yet, is capable of destroying our emotional balance when not. An ability that we often misuse and abuse. Words begin to bombard us the minute we become conscious in the morning. The only reprieve we have from them is when slip into the blissful, unconsciousness of sleep in the night. Even then words continue to permeate our subconscious mind.  There is no escaping them.   Many of us don't realize what power we have within us. The words we use may affect people in ways we aren't even...

Opportunities

A lonely boy headed to nowhere fast. Taking the much walked road running from his past. Going towards disaster. Every failure makes him faster. Till he’s almost out of sight. Hidden by the darkness of night. Trudging through the woods like homeless seeking refuge. Standing beneath a tree as the rains deluge. Will he survive the harshness of life? Can he move on and lay aside his strife? Are the wounds on his knees the only thing he sees? As he leans against the tree, his heart longing to be free, does he know that there is more? A better life God has in store? Just a solitary child, largest smile, spirit mild. Simply asking for some love. Raising her head she looks above. Searching across the skies but no help in sight, a little more of her dies. She’s suffering, hurting, crying, begging. Just wanting someone to hold her. Let her cry on their shoulder. Tell her “girl, I love you.” Not cheap words but feelings true. For too often she’s seen those with eyes glowing green. As they ch...
