Forgiveness

Talking about forgiveness in church tonight reminded me of this poem. It's one of my first ones. I was experimenting with styles at the time. I'm not really sure what this one though. Anyway, enjoy! O what a great thing forgiveness is It floods our souls, cleansing every corner Reaching down to the most unworthy To the sinner it stretches forth Man cannot begin to conquer To explain, to tell us how The greatest thing called forgiveness Causes every knee to bow The feeling that engulfs the heart Can never be explained Let all the men forever say Let forgiveness reign in hearts today 4/2/09

Timing

Sometimes I write a little something just for personal encouragement. Just something I jot down on the sidebar of my notebook every now and then. This was one of those. It's always too late to give in It's always too soon to give up It's never OK to stay down You never have rights to quit When you're depressed become determined When you're stressed don't throw your hands up Use a smile to replace that frown And never say forget it

Progress Is Progress

one step forward, seven steps back. you've got momentum, it's stability you lack. today you stand, tomorrow you fall. no one comes when for help you call. the sun shines while the rain pours. victory hides while failure kicks in doors. the blowing wind knocks you down. In ocean waves you're destined to drown. days, even weeks, have passed. surely you've reached the goal at last. you look about thinking you've improved. but scenery shows only three steps you've moved. you sit to accept your defeat when a small note flutters to your feet. its says, “before utter failure you profess. know that small progress is still progress!”

Marking the Minds

Leave your mark, not just a signature but an imprint Something future generations can grasp Make it better than a footprint or fingerprint Left in the sand or on a window of the past Be a role model, a pattern for them to follow A leader with valor, whose shoes are hard to fill Challenge them with truth, a hope for tomorrow Be sure that within them courage you instill Not with your words, recorded on paper For ink often fades away, too soon forgotten But an existence of esteem and godly favor Is history that will last in words spoken A permanent impression in the cement Of hearts still soft and pliable Forming their lives like metal when bent Is shaped into pillars so dependable May your legacy be a shout and not a whisper Setting the world ablaze with a passion Like a fire that will burn and blister An active volcano in full eruption One action louder than any spoken word Many lessons not taught but caught Quick is forgotten the said, but not what occurred

Chains of Choices

This piece is very special to me. I believe this is my post powerful work. It is surely my longest so far (although I do have a longer one in progress). I was definitely  very in tune with the emotion of this poem. It took about about 3 - 4 hours over the span of three days to write it. I really felt this way my spirit crying out. I was the character in this poem. As I said in a previous post, I began writing poetry in 2009. I wrote several poems that year until it seemed I got a bad case of writers block. I couldn't write anything that I felt was worthwhile. I was struggling with God and His place in my life. Finally, in 2011, when it seemed I was scraping the bottom, He allowed me to channel my emotions into the form of a poem that defined the battle I was fighting. Part 2 of this poem came later the next year. I had found the answers in myself to questions at the end but all my readers requested that I write a conclusion. So I added part 2, a very short, brief ending to the bat

In My Shoes

One day a friend of mine was trying to help me see that I was wrong about something. As a typical human, I instantly became defensive. How dare they attempt to correct me when they hadn't lived my life? What did they know? The story of how this poem came about and the results of our talk are posted on my sister blog: www.mytribute2him.blogspot.com . The post is titled "So I'll try again...If You Will Hold My Hand" if you want to check it out. Enjoy! In My Shoes 12/27/11 Walk a mile in my shoes Take a journey through my past Observe. Respect. Never assume. Always ask Walk a mile in my shoes Carry my burdens for awhile Suffer every fear, every hurt, each scar, each trial Walk a mile in my shoes See the world through my eyes Feel my love, see my tears, hear my silent cries Walk a mile in my shoes Before you tell me how to live Understand me before advice to me you give You say "o that's easy" Have answers for all my pr

More Than A Conqueror

Mostly I write for others, but sometimes I just write for me and share it. This was one of those times that I just needed to write and remind myself of why and what I'm doing. I love that scripture that tells me I am more than a conqueror. It's one of my favorites. I love being able to encourage myself with those words. More Than A Conqueror 11/18/13 I refuse to be defeated. I am more than a conqueror. I refuse to accept failure. I am more than a conqueror. Laying down my weapons isn't an option. I am more than conqueror. The battle isn't over until I quit. I am more than a conqueror. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. I am more than a conqueror. My face is set like a flint towards my goal. I am more than a conqueror. Though the war around me rages, I will not fear. I am more than a conqueror. By the power of the Holy Ghost I know I am more than a conqueror. I will win because God's got this. Because of that I have no doubt that I am

Who's the Servant?

Whose the Servant 02/11/09 You call for Him when you need Him But when He beckons, you refuse When you need Home, He is there Yet you thank Him only to pay your dues He created you mind, body, and soul Still you're to smart to give Him control If you don't need Him, you put Him aside While in front of others you say "In Him I Abide" Who ever heard of lying to God Do you think the almighty is fooled It was to men of your kind He spoke the words Depart from me, I never knew you You make your plans and ask His blessing If He doesn't answer you find this upsetting Yet time and again your prayers end 'Your humble servant' yet you're not observant Of the way you treat the one you call Lord I ask you to consider this, Is He your servant or are you His?

A Reason To Stay

I didn't want you to get bored reading all my rookie pieces so I'm throwing in one of my newer poems. I were this one night when I just felt a real urgency to give a message to the youth. It seemed like all the young people in my assembly were focusing on those that had  left us and what we needed to do about that. I sat down at my computer with a heavy spirit and the words just came..... A Reason To Stay 8/12/13 The words I pen, on this page before me, are written with my deepest conviction . As I struggle for a way to convey them, I hope I can portray my spirit of passion. It's with great emotion and words of prayer, I write this epistle to the youth of my day. I request to you who's reading this that you would take heed to the words that I say.     It seems that in the darkness of the valley lately we are losing sight Of the very reason that we work so hard to keep our torches bright. So what could be the cause of a distraction so great That

The Team Member

Another rookie.... The Team Member By Kesheena Levasseur 4/1/09 there was a little boy on a team one day He couldn't catch, he couldn't throw but on the team he wanted to stay He wasn't there to watch or play he just helped the team in his own little way The day he was chosen they didn't want him to stay He was too slow and they told him so He was a failure at their sport, the team would never win But to the championship they were on their way Because of the boy they chose that day When the trophy they got They didn't mention his name Though he'd contributed a lot to the game He'd carried the water and chased stray balls And when the boys fell, an encouragement he'd called But when he was questioned very happy he seemed for he was content just to be a part of the team Here in the Body you may not receive The attention you want but don't be deceived Hold your peace, stay in your place Everyone here is needed God sees you

Continue The Work

Here's another one of my first poems. Continue The Work by Kesheena LeVasseur 03/07/09 My Father has died I work in his stead As was his request from his death bed He asked me to continue The work he'd begun To bring forth a people Jesus' bride, His chosen one The work has been hard I've enlisted much help To bring forth a people Gaining no earthly wealth But the work has be profitable So many lives saved From the road of sin Satan himself had paved We bring them to church Preach to them the word Tell them they can make it If their loins they will gird So many have come To have their souls fed For to Jesus Christ They wish to be wed But my time has now come To join my father I will now leave the work To my sons and my daughters I will tell to them As my father told me That to finish this job They must work faithfully The work will be hard The days and nights long They'll find many things That could and will go wrong But don

In The Beginning

This is the first poem I'd ever written. My pastor had just given a lesson on the subject creation and I felt inspired to write this. It was my first taste of poetry and I've been hooked ever since! I believe my talent has grown much since this poem but I wouldn't want to forget where I began..... In the Beginning by Kesheena LeVasseur 02/14/09 In the beginning When God created His Son He said “ Let's make a world” Let it revolve around the Son So in the beginning A world was made The word of God tells us It took Him six days In the beginning God made Adam and Eve Out of the dust of the earth And into them life He breathed In the beginning God created a tree, Outside of the garden, Of which he told them not to eat In the beginning A choice Adam made To disobey God And go his own way And in the beginning Out of Eden they were sent And because of their sin Back to the dust they went Even now today

The Meaning in the Name

You're probably wondering why I chose the name Talent Unburied . I believe that God has given me the talent of poetry.  It dawned on me recently that by not sharing the fruit of my gift I am burying it in the ground so to speak. Like the story in the bible of the mean given talents to invest, I was to you this talent for the glory of my king. So I created this blog so I can share with you the words I am inspired to write. I dont want to bury my talent and have the master displeased with me. So please read, enjoy, and be sure to comment!
